Mixed used clothing

Are you looking for low-cost used clothing that offers broad possibilities for further utilization? In our offer, you will find Mixed Rags, also known as Institutional Rags. This category is intended forsorting facilities operating in export models to developing markets, textile processing, and brokers in the used clothing industry. Learn below what Mixed Rags are and how we pack them.

The most affordable used clothing – Mixed Rags

Mixed Rags from the A&E Clothing sorting facility are a blend of textiles primarily sourced from collections in the USA. In the industry, they are also called Institutional Rags, because they include unsorted or pre-rejected items that were not sold in second-hand stores or come directly from original collection points. This results in a wide, heterogeneous mix of used clothing that may contain women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing, sweaters, jackets, shirts, pants, household textiles such as bedding and towels, and occasionally other textile items.

Most products in this category show visible signs of use, such as stains, abrasions, fading, missing buttons, or damaged zippers. This is a natural feature of this segment. At the same time, batches of Mixed Rags may include recognizable American brands, which after additional sorting can be resold.

How Institutional Rags are packaged?

Mixed Rags are packed into very large, compressed bales weighing 340–450 kg (750–1000 lbs). This logistical solution is designed to maximize efficiency in container transport. A 40’ HC container can hold up to 26,300 kg (58,000 lbs) of Mixed Rags, which allows wholesalers to optimize shipping costs per kilogram and scale their operations in an industrial model. Large bales are intended for recipients with sufficient warehouse space and staff for further sorting.

Mixed Rags and their various uses

Mixed Rags are a category with a wide range of applications. They primarily serve as raw material for further processing and provide trading flexibility. Importers use this mix of used clothing for:

  • further sorting and reclassification – after additional selection, part of the goods can be allocated to lower sales grades and exported to developing markets,
  • industrial wiping cloth production – cotton textiles and fiber blends are used as technical rags in the automotive, construction, or manufacturing sectors,
  • textile fiber recycling – materials unsuitable for sale are shredded and used as furniture stuffing or technical components.

According to industry data, a significant portion of Mixed Rags is resorted and returned to the market as used clothing, another part enters the industrial sector, and only a small percentage becomes waste unsuitable for further use. Institutional Rags therefore fit naturally into a circular economy model.

Institutional Rags as a foundation for exports to Pakistan

Many companies entering the industry start with higher-grade clothing. However, businesses building scale and industrial infrastructure often base their development on Institutional Rags. Large bales and competitive pricing allow wholesalers to establish their own sorting and classification systems, develop industrial wiping cloth production, enter textile recycling, and diversify export directions for used clothing. Mixed Rags provide flexibility – part of the batch can be allocated for retail sales, processed technically, or sent for fiber recovery.

If your wholesale business operates in a further sorting and price-sensitive export model, Mixed Rags in large bales may be the most economical category. We encourage you to contact us to arrange order details.
